Root OTA with root?

Rooted users will probably have it before the general public. As soon as it's on one phone, it'll be made into a ROM, and then made available to download.

Usually we will get a rom before the official ota but if this one is really coming out of the blue on the 16th looks like we will be waiting on it for a little bit.

Wouldn't they build something into the OTA which would counteract the current root method? I'm all for root but if they come out with OTA which has 2.2, 720p video, wireless n, etc. I'm going to be very tempted to go with OTA. Is it really a given that if they come out with an OTA that we eventually be able to incorporate into our rooted Incredibles?

Thanks!

Rooted phones do get OTA updates, unless you're running a custom mod.

According to Eric Lin, HTC's global PR and online community manager (via pocket-lint.com), the Froyo update may not come until December. My guess is there will be a great 2.2 rom available for the Incredible before then.

Rooted phones not running a custom rom's are eligible to download OTA's

ALMOST always the OTA will remove root and in some case they patch the exploit used to obtain root.

beware of accepting a OTA if you want to keep root.

What about custom kernels? I did the under volt kernel and I am hoping (if its true about the 16th) I'd be able to update.

Custom roms don't recieve OTA's (official ones anyway) from my understanding. You need to wait till the rom creator packages the OTA into their ROM

if you have root and accept the OTA you will lose root... its that simple so just wait and someone will make a rom that is root safe
