Help OTB must have apps?

ok, I don't want to root my new phone (just yet), what are the must have apps I should download from android market and why?
 
cheers for that. i'm in ireland so apps available to me might be more limited. i tried to download both "google shopper" and "winamp" and they were no go here. i'd say there are a lot of apps which are not available outside the USA.
 
Yeah, I'd say that's very true Suhel28.

I'm diverting the thread here but I suppose it's applicable since we're talking about great apps but why is Handcent so universally revered over the stock sms app in your opinion? I installed it myself but couldn't see why. I suppose that's the beauty of Android as you've said in many posts - you can customise it to your own tastes. Aesthetically, I thought it looked a bit ehem, cheap :o

when I first installed it, I felt the same.
but when I started using it, I began loving it.

I guess tis the customization that lures users into it :D
