Help OTG Problems

Having a few problems on a new unrooted Nexus 7 (2013). Nexus Media Importer will recognise my USB but no video files will play from it. I have to import them from the USB first. No such problems on my wife's 2012 model which behaves perfectly!

Worse problems still when I plug in my SD card reader. It seems to recognise it, then not, then yes again, then no again and continually cycle like that without allowing me to view any files. Again everything works fine on the 2012.

Any thoughts? Is rooting my only option?

I have an unrooted Nexus 2013 with Media Importer and I can play videos without problems. Within Media Importer, what happens when you tap on Videos? Do you see any video files? In my case, I have MX Player installed.

What is the video format you want to play? Did you try with different video formats? Tell us whether MX Player app is installed on your Nexus.

Tried MX Player as well as VLC. Would it be different if my Nexus was rooted? My wife's 2012 nexus plays all the files OK, as does my cheap and nasty sumvision cyclone. It doesn't matter if I try mp3, mp4, avi or whatever, the result is the same.

The idea with Nexus Media Importer is to avoid to root your device. As I said, I have a Nexus 7 2013 and it works, so something went wrong for you. I would try to deinstall/reinstall Media Importer. BTW, my version is 7.2.2.

Looks like the was a problem with NMI. For some reason it was stuck on version 4.2.2. Reinstalled and once the language bug has been fixed it will be perfect.

Now all I need is to be able to read RAW files from my camera. Any ideas?

You can use NMI and a card reader to access them. There are apps like RawVision to view them or Photo Mate R2 to process them. I have used both for RAW files from my Canon 40D & G12 cameras.
