Help Other punctuation symbols

Lurker
On the internet, I see images of Samsung Galaxy keyboards with punctuation symbols above various letters.

Mine doesn't have that - all I have is numbers above the letters on the top row, and a punctuation box with a limited set of symbols.

When I am typing a message or email, how do I insert brackets ()[] or carrot signs ^, and so on?

In particular, I need those extra symbols for entering passwords for my email accounts.

(BTW, on the box, it says mine is a GT-I9100T - I couldn't find a forum for that model - is this forum the right one to use?)

Long pressing on some of the buttons (Alphabets) give symbols and numbers. There is a key (s) at the bottom left for switching to numbers and symbols.

I have tried long-pressing on the alphabet keys, and it only changes from lower to upper case.

There are no symbols with those keys, so long-pressing does not give me punctuation symbols.

Also, the numbers/alphabet key does not cycle through symbols - it just alternates between numbers and alphabet.

The full-stop to the right of the space bar gives me the choice of ,?!'@-/ and a range of smiley faces - I would have thought that the rest of the punctuation symbols should have been there, instead of the smiley faces, since the smileys are available through the option tab at the very bottom of the phone.

Hmm...

When I actually looked at the numbers option, it has the other punctuation, and then I have to cycle through the three sets of symbols to find the one I want.

Am used to having punctuation as a separate option, and it stills seems like they would have included them with the full-stop, rather than put smiley faces there - but anyway - have finally figured it out.

You have found the main problem with the S2 keyboard and its auto correction, they're both rubbish.

I've found the GO keyboard on the Play Store is very good as it has its own comma key and the long press punctuation you're looking for. Just make sure you turn off the sliding mode under input settings as in can cause typing errors.

The SwiftKey and Smart keyboards both show punctuation above the letters.

OK - just downloaded the Smart Keyboard Trial, and it does put the punctuation above the letters - yes!!

All the same, the less usual symbols are still in the number screen ...

At least I now know where it all is - thanks for your help :)
