Accessories Otter box defender

Just got my Commuter. Initial impressions are good. Was worried the underlayer was too loose, but it works well with the full case assembled. Also noticing the flush buttons, so may have to take the drastic approach at some point! My main pros:
- Gives the phone a bit more heft as sometimes I feel the phone is too thin and a little precarious!
- Gives an edge to prevent my fingers bleeding onto the edge of the touchscreen. I use the Kindle app a lot on the tube and this annoys me as it sometimes obstructs page turns
- For anyone with a Clingo, this sticks really well to it. Quality!

Got my Otterbox commuter today.

The case does make the phone noticeably bigger. I can see this upsetting people who already thing the phone is too big but there are a few advantages.

The phone now lies flat instead of resting on the camera which is a huge improvement. Was always worried about damaging the camera lens.

The chunkier size also makes it easier to hold the phone in landscape without accidentally touching the screen or the touch buttons.

The rubber bumps for the power button and volume rocker make it very easy to feel around for the buttons. They are very responsive. If you had trouble pressing the power button before, this should make life a lot easier for you.

The case comes in two pieces, a rubber casing and a hard plastic clip that holds the rubber case on. Fits very firmly, it has been designed very well to make sure it's a perfect fit. The problem with coming in two pieces is that it isn't so quick to peel off to stick it in a dock. Easy enough to take on and off, just takes a little longer than a normal case.

There are a lot of Clingo stands around, which is the best for DHD? I was going to get a standard dock but this sounds like a much better solution, especially if it works well with the Otterbox Commuter. Do they lose sticky over time? Tried the car dock? Do they fall over easy?

Sorry Astral, only got the universal stand, but it's very nice. Weighted bottom is great for stability and the ball joint is excellent for repositioning. Like I said, works even better with the otterbox than with the phone nekkid.

Can't comment on the effect of time on the stickiness. I've had this for about 3 or 4 weeks now and it's still going strong. Hasn't attracted much dust (which is surprising in my room!) and certainly doesn't seem to have degraded. Have read many reviews with people claiming that it does indeed wash easily with water to become sticky again. I guess only time will tell how it fares over time ... yeesh, I could probably have phrased that better ...

Interesting info guys. Thanks very much.
I'm about to receive my new Desire HD today/tomorrow and was wondering which case to finally go in for.

In comparison between the Otterbox case and the Case Mate Barely There case -
1. Which of the two above would you recommend?

2. And, which is the thinner one of the two?

3. Does adding on either one of the casings cause it to not fit in with a Car holder / docking station?

My main con with the Otter Box one (and it's probably just going to be me who finds it annoying) is the fact that they've placed a really huge logo of theirs on the back panel - whereas the Case Mate one just gives a clean surface.

And does anyone know if they make any of these cases with a kickstand attachment? Seems like it would be a good idea (if it didn't add any bulk to the piece, that is)

Looking forward to your opinions and thanks in advance!

Cheers,
AndroidFreud.

I ordered a Case Mate Barely There and it came today and I really dont like it because its plastic and I cant really see it protecting the phone much from an impact. I was that unhappy with it Ive ordered an Otter Box today so hopefully that will be here tomorrow.

The Case Mate is really slim and doesnt hardly add any size to the phone at all which is good but like I said there's no shock protection at all. Wish I had done my homework on it a bit first!

Hope this helps :)

I have an OtterBox commuter case right now, and like it. The buttons seemed to be too annoying, so I trimmed them with a razor, and now the entire care is smooth all the way around. I just ordered a Case-Mate Pop case (in transit as I type), so once that is in I will post a review. Here is a link in case you want to check it out: https://www.case-mate.com/HTC-Desire-HD/Case-Mate-HTC-Desire-HD-Pop-Case.asp

That one looks a lot better than the one I got Case-Mate Barely There Case - HTC Desire HD - Black

Can anyone comment on how the OtterBox feels while gaming on the Desire HD holding it sideways? For example I played Mini Squadron and also Heavy Gunner yesterday. Both quite addictive and fun but I really don't like the feeling of the camera under my fingers, holding the phone. Both games (and I imagine many more) require me to hold the phone on the two side edges and with the camera where it is, I am constantly pressing and touching the camera lens on the bottom of the phone while in mad gaming frenzy. Of the Pop Case and the OtterBox, the Otter Box looks like it has an outward lip around the camera that may keep my fingers off the lens while gaming. Can anyone comment on if it feels better holding the phone sideways for gaming and if it helps keep fingers off the camera lens?

Up till now I had never considered a case coz I'd only seen the crap silicone ones on ebay. So yesterday I ordered the official HTC PO S550 leather case (with white lining and the open ended bottom not the knockoff copy). I am guessing that if I do buy the Otterbox, judging by the 2 youtube videos on the the HTC PO S550 that it won't fit in the leather case. The videos show that the phone naked is a really tight fit in the PO S550. If anyone knows please say so. I am considering selling the HTC leather case when it arrives and buying an Otterbox. In the past I've always used a slim leather case for my phones when carrying in my front jeans pocket to protect the screen. Now I have my 1st touch screen phone and I'm just not sure how much protection it needs. Do you think the Otterbox is enough protection to thow in your pocket or would it be best to find a thin leather case to fit the phone with the Otterbox on? I guess I'd usually place the phone inside my pocket screen facing towards my body as I know it's easy when carrying heavy stuff and have it press against my legs on the phone in my pocket. Am I just being paranoid about the large sexy screen?

Lastly is the included screen protecter that comes with the Otterbox of good quality? I have only ever bought cheap screen protectors (around $2, I don't believe in paying retail) however I have found a quite a difference in quality. I usually get the Hh ScreenGuard brand from DealExtreme and they are thin, easy to apply, no bubbles and last ages. I received today from an ebay seller cheap no name, no packaging protectors that are thicker and harder than the nice ones I like. Even after going though 2 protectors it was impossible to get one on without some bubbles and I'm guessing will peel off before long as it's thicker and harder. I can't find any Desire HD screen protectors listed on DealExtreme at the moment and who knows which one's listed on ebay ranging from <2$ to >$10 are any better than the ones I tried today.

Thanks for ya help

I've been using the PO S550 pouch case for a couple of weeks now and while it's brilliant for keeping the phone in good condition, it's not particularly practical for me. When I get a text I fish the whole thing out of my pocket (standard), but then I have to take the phone out of the case, meaning I need two free hands just to read new texts or other notifications. Having trawled the forum a bit I'm keen on the Otter Box Commuter as a replacement since the general opinion is it provides good protection with an ergonomic design.

While some questions have been flying around about desktop cradles, I'm more interested in a car holder. Would anyone know if the DHD with a Commuter case would still fit in one of these? I've read that the naked phone is a fairly tight fit anyway, so just wanted to double check before ordering this as well.

Hi guys , does anyone own the Otter Box defender for the HTC desire HD ?
i like to know if its a good case ! And where in Australia i can get one !

cheers Peter

So the original Q was about the defender case. I always manage to break my phones and don't mind if its not so pretty. Does anyone rate the defender?

Just fitted Otter box defender to Desire HD. Its awesome. you would notice the extra bulk in skin tight jeans but I don't wear them. It makes it safe. you can access everything easily. screen, volume etc work great. So happy I went for this over others i've seen.

I have had mine for a month and it is brilliant, well worth the money to keep my phone safe.
No problems with any of the functions, I would highly recommend it :)
