Otterbox Defender mini-review

Hi,

I just wanted to let you guys know that I got my OtterBox Defender case for my HTC One S. Believe it or not, its even better than the previous OtterBox Defender cases. The folks at OtterBox have changed the quality/type of the outer layer which now fits *extremely* well, so well that it looks like the phone, the inner shell and the outer shell are all one piece. The screen protector is every bit as good as it was in the past, and all the key parts of the phone are very accessible.

I say - if you don't mind the phone tripling in depth (I don't) and if you really want to protect it (I do), then go for it.

my thoughts exactly. i've had mine in a defender case for a couple weeks now, and i absolutely love it. i'm not terrified to pull it out of my pocket at work anymore. the extra bit of thickness and the rubber outter layer really help to make if feel like i'm actually holding something.

I have the otterbox defender for my One X and notice that when it is on the person on the other end of the line has trouble hearing me. A friend has the commuter case for the S and has the same issue. Do you folks see this with yours?

Do you guys recommend getting the commuter or the defender? I'm probably going to order one of them today I'm kind of leaning more towards the commuter.

I would go for the defender just because I am paranoid about wrecking my phone

@FeedbakBWR: no, I have had no problems with sound problems on either side. I can only imagine one reason for what happened to you: could the box either somehow cover the microphone or is something else covering it? @amorales63: I would most definitely recommend the defender as the newest version is very thin and yet it is formidable and, just like FeedbakBWR, I am also paranoid about my phone. HTH

I can say no there is nothing blocking the mic's but the holes are very small and I think that is what is doing it. They are sending me a new one so I can cut my current one up and see if it fixes it.

Mine are not that small, at least not when compared to the original mic so I think that you must have received a defective unit and an exchange should solve that. good luck!

Mine are not that small, at least not when compared to the original mic so I think that you must have received a defective unit and an exchange should solve that. good luck!

Well no they are not small compared to the mic sizes. I have taken off the outer shell and just left on the first layer of carbonite and it still is muffled. I am not sure how HTC is doing this but it must be a real close proximity mic or something. I don't know.

Ordered a second defender for my fiancee. She got the d30 case from T-Mobile when she got her one s. She doesn't think It's enough, and loves my case. Should be here on a couple days.

Got my new Otterbox and it seems better t my mom who is the original person who complained constantly she could not hear me. So i will test out for a week or so and see how it goes.
