Otterbox Defender (modified for extended battery) PICS

Laramie8x8

Newbie
Being the hands on kinda person I am, I decided after looking at the case that I could just cut out the back of the inner case to fit the extended battery.

It was very easy with the dremel and with cutting and clean up probably took 30-45 minutes. The only real issue if you want to call it that is that the rubber outer case has to stretch so it's a tad wavy on each side, but for me, this is a very small issue compared to the benefits of using the otterbox.

Ohhhhhh. Not being able to use an Otterbox has been a deal-killer for me on the extended battery. I'll just live with two stock batteries. But if I can modify it to have the extended battery AND the Otterbox, we may have a deal.

Nice! I'm planning to try the same thing, but haven't gotten around to it yet... I was really curious how much work it would take to get the silicone to fit.

lol, holy crap! And I thought my phone sitting inside my otterbox was a fat little bastage!!

I'm going to give it a few days and see if it stretches out and lies nice and flat. It seems to stay in place just fine, so at this point, it's just a cosmetic issue.

That being said, I really wish Griffin made a Survivor case for the Rezound. I had one on my iphone and felt that it was MUCH better fit and finish wise compared to any otterbox I've had.

Ive been looking at this case for awhile. Is the screen protector (which I hear is garbage) easy to remove?

All the other cases I see out there seem cheap.

I just pushed it out with my thumb, started at the corner and just went around the side. It came out clean. There was no glue residue or anything. I just replaced it with the ZAGG screen protector and im much happier. I hated the stock screen protector.

Is there any updates on this? I have read some where that you can just not use the plastic back piece and just put rubber one on. Would it work?

Thanks

Did the silicone ever flatten out?

It did not. But it never seemed to be an issue other than aesthetic.

It does work, but IMO, the fit is not as nice, which is why I went the route I did with modifying the case.

Well while I don't have the Otterbox I still decided to try this mod. I'm less than impressed (or happy) with the results. I have the Incipio case from Amazon: Amazon.com: Incipio HT-223 HTC Rezound SILICRYLIC Hard Shell Case with Silicone Core - 1 Pack - Retail Packaging - Black/Black: Cell Phones & Accessories FYI I did need a replacement cover because the original one broke - I thought I had pictures in my photobucket account but I do not so I can't post the pics of the failure.
Anywho, on to my 'modifications'.

This is what the HTC extended battery looks like with the back cut out.

The silicone core stretched around the phone.

Both sides of the case on the phone. As you can tell it didn't work as well as on the OP's pictures (which appear to be gone now). As of right now I'm torn between:
I'm torn on which direction to go now.

EDIT. I found the pics for my broken case:

I ended up ordering the Laza batteries and charger combo. :( Just means I'll probably have to replace my Incipio with an Otterbox - design appears to be less susceptible to breakage.

Mine's loose and I've never used the RND so no big loss there. I did see a lot of people complaining about that, though. Crappy design on HTC's part if you ask me.
