Ouchie! New modem time methinks

I've been looking for a decent modem since moving to Root Box. Ironass very kindly pointed me in the direction of LPX (I'm on O2 and in London / Home Counties) which has been behaving ok and signal is pretty good, but it seems to drop off from H very quickly, almost favouring GRPS or even EDGE over H - although when it does favour H the signal is good. I've also noticed that my battery is getting absolutely raped.

So, any suggestions? Alternative modems? Or is this not a modem issue?

Hi turbohobbit!

Just a thought... try downloading Network Signal Info, free from the Play Store and monitor your operators signal strength.

It's a nice app that shows your nearest masts/towers on a map and can help identify signal problems. I use it all the time. See, here.

Thanks mate, I'll have a look a look at that. I guess it's a case of using different modems and checking the strength over a few days each?

I'm afraid so. Different modems work differently depending on operator and location. Also, just because a modem is newer, doesn't mean it is better. LPX works better for me than either of the newer LQ modems. Some modems do tend to work better for most people and I have listed those, here. Might be worth giving them a go first.
