Help Outgoing audio muffled

I frequently talk on my phone with it resting between my left shoulder and ear if I am doing something while talking. I have had several people tell me that my audio is extremely muffled when I do this. I do have a Verizon case on the phone.

Anyone else experience this?

My wife has told me the same thing, shoulder-hold or not. I have the incipio slicrylic case from the vzw store.
