Output power for the headphones

SeaMitsos

Newbie
I bought Philips headphones to improve the sound quality without the opportunity to test them.
The sound quality was descent but the volume is lower than the original headphones.
I'm thinking to buy an external power amplifier like"Fiio EO Headphone Amplifier". The technical data are the above:
Output power: 150 mW (16 ohms loaded), 12 mW (300 ohms loaded)
Signal to noise ratio: >= 95 dB (A weight)
Distortion: < 0.009% (10 mW)
Frequency response: 10 Hz - 100 kHz

Any idea about the original Output power of Note II, in order to compare it with Fiio amplifier ??

Regards

The Note 2 output will be lower volume than the FiiO amplifier. There are custom kernels with support for increasing volume output, could save yourself the external amplifier if you wanted to flash one of those.

Thanks for the advice any suggestion for a specific kernel ?
Does anyone know the exact power output ? for the headphones to compare it ??

Regards

I can definitely recommend the Fiio E6, the primary reason for using an external amp isn't volume, although obviously it will do that, but sound quality, by not having the volume maxed out on your device you are preventing the on board op amp from clipping. You can also try out some of your friends headphones and try to find one that's more efficient than what you're currently using.

Just increasing the volume will also increase the subjective sense of sound quality too, this has been demonstrated in scientific trials even when the increase was as little as 3dB (and is the reason any true sound quality comparison between two source devices/amps is volume-matched).

This is an interesting topic. I never really thought about this before, just because I've used PowerAMP for so long and I have pre-set volume settings w/ the equalizer adjusted accordingly. I have a setting for my Samsung HS3000 (for the car), USB audio (for the car), direct 3.5mm jack connection, phone speakers, etc... Due to PowerAMP's amazing equalizer settings, I've been able to find the perfect balance for all the different situations. The most important control is the pre-amp adjustment.
