Root Over clocking?

Rwestiv

Newbie
I've tried searching the Nexus 7 forums, but I don't see anything about over clocking.

I did this on my dearly departed HP Touchpad, but I'm wondering if it's good idea on the Nexus 7 since I don't see anyone talking about it.

Has anyone over clocked the CPU? Is it worth it?

Thanks!

im fixing to reinstall the mkernal to overclock to 1.4 or 1.5 with my governer set at preformance u can use no frills to see if the kernal you have is ocable or set your gov. at preformance i put on that for hardcore gaming or just for smoothness

+1--the gateway to overclocking is via a custom kernel.

You can underclock a stock kernel, but only overclock via a custom kernel.

Make sure the kernel matches your Android version and that you follow all of the dev's installation instructions and notes/caveats, etc.

Lots of kernel threads listed in here: http://androidforums.com/nexus-7-all-things-root/571161-nexus-7-all-things-root-guide-updated-02-feb-2013-a.html

and here's a good link over at XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38201936&postcount=2

Best of luck!

:)

edit: I don't overclock my N7 and typically only underclock my GNex (to save / extend battery life); it's a pretty fast (to me at least) already.

I'm with ET here, I don't really see the point in overclocking, especially a device like the Nexus 7. :)

It has 4 cores running at 1.3GHz (although I'm not sure if it limits individual core speed when all 4 are in use as other Tegra devices do) so it should be fast enough for anything you throw at it.

That being said, if you do want to, look at an app like System Tuner or Trickster Mod kernel settings and a compatible kernel to do so. Don't go all out with the first either, start in small increments, balancing speed against stability.

Bear in mind the performance governor sets your min speed to your max speed, kind of like driving your car with the gas pedal floored. Great for performance, but not so great for battery and device life. It can easily get quite hot. It's recommended only for testing, like benchmarks. :D

Not sure if this configuration is at all beneficial to performance but ive got my n7 oc'd to 1.7ghz with a setting of 2 max active cores and gpu at 426mhz. Governer is interactive.

Is that for gaming?

I don't think I've done anything on my N7 that needed any extra boost yet (I don't game, though).

I purchased grand theft auto 3 and juiced up the graphics taking advantage of the tegra enhanced visuals but there was some awful frame drops making the game nearly unplayable. So I went into trickster mod and started fiddling around. Im on the trinity kernel with CM 10.1 this definitly fixed the crazy frame drops so you could say its a decent configuration for gaming although I think im going to be leaving it on as my setup since the device does not get very hot at all which is probabky due to only 2 cores running. I guess as El Presidente had stated the cores are limited when all four are running.

EDIT: is there a small mouth inside the mouth of your alien?
