Root Overclocking CPU: What do I need? What are the risks?

Papex

Newbie
Simple questions really.

If I like to make my rooted Desire faster by overclocking it, then how do I get started?

Whats should I be aware of (battery life)? What are best practises?

Is it dangerous? (Can I brick my phone?)

Please enlighten me on this issue. I guess I'm not the only root newbie who would like to know. :)

Firstly you need a custom Rom that has a custom kernel with a higher clock speed in mhZ. Then you need an app to unlock the potential such as set CPU.

Almost all overclock kernels are undervolted which means even at highest mhZ, they use the same battery or less than a standard Rom.

You can't brick your phoned. If the mhZ is too high or the voltage us too low, the phone can become unstable. This will cause reboots.

The danger of overclocking a pc CPU is extra heat generated by higher power consumption. This can physically damage the CPU. As these kernels are undervolted, this is not an issue do the risks are minimal
