Root Overclocking DHD

Hi folks, have been doing some research and it seems some people are running their DHD at 1.5ghz with no issues. I've even seem suggestions that the same processor is used at 1.5ghz in other stock phones.

So I'm wondering, have any folk on here had experience overclocking the DHD, if so with which frequency settings and which CPU govenors? Anyone experienced any issues?

Am running Jellytime r23.
 
I overclock, but conservatively. I stick to 1.2 GHz and keep the voltage down to 1100 vdd. That is 100 vdd below the stock Desire HD voltage at the stock speed.
 
Yeah, I haven't gone as far as tweaking voltages like Ral.

But I did find a oc to around 1.2 and a slight under volt worked well.
 
One piece of information which would useful if we wanted to find our phones safe limits is what is the stock voltage of a HTC Sensation XL.

Did some research, but no luck so far.
 
What software do you use to alter/check voltage settings? Not sure my ROM has this inbuilt. Using jellytime r23. Tried incredicontrol, so far haven't touched voltages.
 
As far as I know (from R8.2), JellyTime does not have support for adjusting voltages nor does it have a undervolted kernel.

I would probably pick another ROM if I wanted to do some overclocking.

Altering voltages using apps is possible, but whether an app like Set CPU will work is a hit or miss affair. I edit init.d scripts to adjust voltages (basically inserting additional commands which the phone implements on boot).
 
Ah, roger that. Nevermind. Seems to be perfectly stable with max cpu set to 1300 for now, will check that out for another couple of days and try upping it another 100mhz if no issues.

Have just bought a new battery recently (old one was nearly 2 years heavy use, getting tired) and am happy with battery life for now. According to CPU spy my phone spends very little time at max cpu anyway, and the screen still eats most of the juice. So I can't see much point moving away from jellytime, which I like lots.

I had assumed so, would I be correct in also assuming that the only negative repercussions of this would be increased power consumption and potential overheating (and thus instability)? So far I've noticed neither, will be keeping an eye out though.
 
Increase power consumption depends on what you are doing. If the faster speed means you get things done faster than it should all balance out. But if most of your activities involve data related activities, it is likely that the data speeds cap your performance.

Running as faster speed on a higher voltage generates more heat, so the real long term repercussion is shorter product life. This might not be significant as it may last as long as you need it too.

A US Navy manual I read a couple of years ago (when I was overclocking PC's) provided a guideline that with every increase in temperature of 10 degrees celcius, product life of an electronic device is cut by half. This is not specific to processors, so how applicable it is to our devices, I do not know.
