Root Overclocking with CPU Tuner

So I decided to see what overclocking does for my phone. I used CPU Tuner since its free and I just wanted to try it. When I installed it, it went fine for about two days. Then I noticed my phone running very slow, I thought overclocking was meant to make it run faster lol. The settings were [governor - conservative, max - 600mhz, min - 245mhz], tried adjusting some settings but still could not get it to run smoother. I wonder since CPU Tuner has battery profiles and Im using Juice Defender, they started conflicting? Anyone else having problems with CPU Tuner?

I suspect you are correct w/ your reasoning(too many generals-not enough soldiers),not just w/this,but the whole phone in general.
While we can tweak our phones performance, there are finite limits to pushing what the hardware can support. To me,that is 1/2 the fun of this phone.Anything beyond stock performance that I get out of this phone,I consider it a bonus & a blessing. All it has cost me so far is my time, but time well spent meeting all of you here.
Reading everyones' input & finding what works best has served myself very well.

Kolio you have also been very helpful here. Glad to have you in the forums. Feel free to PM me anytime you have problems:D

Try SetCPU but first uninstall CPU tuner. You can also try overclock widget which is free. :)

I couldn't agree with you more, Jose! KOLIO is a gentleman and a scholar and also a peace maker! Since his arrival this Forum has taken a big turn for the better!

;)

Joser, have you ever tried CPU Boost? I hear it works just as great and it's also free.

Just wanted to throw in another one. :)

That is what I use(CPU BOOST),for the following reasons:
1) Auto start on boot option
2) Dual screen-on/screen-off settings
3) Ease of use
Granted, you can't precision tune a precise setting,as you perhaps can with other CPU apps, but you still have choices(6 or 7 I believe, far better than when this app first came out {2}),but it's probably one of the better FREE CPU APPS currently on the market.

P.S. I currently do not use any battery saving apps or task managers, more of the "too many generals, not enough soldiers" theory.
I believe they could be used sparingly, but, they are at best,a supplement, but definitely not a "cure all". It seems they interfere with background running apps, you have to leave some of them running,or you will begin to experience performance issues,namely,SMS,MMS,E-MAIL,&PHONE CALLS.That seems to be the bulk of most performance issues, but not all issues, experienced, especially if you stop & think back exactly when you start experiencing problems.
Perhaps, keeping a log of mods(apps or setting changes) & problems you experience may help.
(I need to practice what I preach here & help myself for a change,LOL).

I have tried it on my Evo 4g but it doesnt overclock. I havent tried it on the Ascend because my teacher still hasn't returned it. I have replied on Step by Step

Why do you have an ascend if you have an evo 4g?? =P

You can use the Evo 4G on Crickets network. I bought the Evo 4G to use on Crickets network but found out I will not get 3G speeds on Crickets network. I still decided to keep it and use it with WIFI. I got the Ascend because it was cheap and it had 3G.

Cricket is supposed to have 4G by the end of this year! :D

Hi guys...know this thread is a little older but its kinda related to what I'm looking for so I thought i'd post here. I am the developer of CPUBoost. I've been working with someone with an ascend who is having some issues with the app not saving the speeds when exiting the app. I'm wondering if this is a common problem with this phone. I don't have access to an ascend . Do you guys have custom kernels for overclocking or is the stock kernel not locked? Its hard to troubleshoot all the different hardware when you don't have access to them but I want to improve the app as best I can. If anyone is familiar with the ascend kernels and how the clock speed is handled and could lend some insight I'd appreciate it.

Joser116 I quoted you cause I was wondering what you were running on the Evo when you tried the app?

Thanks for any replies...(I actually got my start into android and rom deving here on Android Forums so I know it's a great place to get feedback)

i just dumped cpuboos for setcpu because my profile kept returning to default and sometimes my max would drop back to 4something.
so far no snaggs and it seems more stable, but no nitrus button kinda bothers me. i liked seeing the huge difference it made when i pressed it.

setcpu is not free either :( but i conned a friend into giving me a $20 visa gift card he had lying around so for me it was. go cheap-assery.

I'm using the free Overclock Widget, and so far it seems to be working ok. I can set it to go down to 128mhz when the screen is off. When the screen is on, it goes back up to 600mhz.

What is the maximum safest we can go? I only went with 600 because that's what everyone else was using.

The normal max speed is 528. 600 is as fast as it can go without a custom kernel, which we don't have. From what I've read (not sure if it's true), this is the same cpu that is in the palm pixi, and they have had it up to over 800 safely, so there is still room to grow if somebody wanted to do the work. (again, can't swear that this is accurate, don't hang me if I'm wrong)

The normal speed for the MSM_7x25 is 528 Mhz. However, Huawei has ALREADY overclocked the Ascend up to 600. An OC kernel is required to overclock. Another dev, Linuxgeek, has patched and compiled a new OC kernel that takes it a couple steps higher to 691 Mhz, which is what I used in my discontinued CM6 port. So, those who are using CPU setting apps to "OC" to 600, you're not doing anything.

The thing that really kills the Ascend is the lack of GPU. Other similar devices that have the same processing speeds are at an advantage because they have an onboard GPU.

ah. Thanks. I was wondering about that. That is good information to have since I think about 90% of the people on here are using set cpu (including me). lol. Is it true that this is the same cpu that is in the palm pixi? (just wondering if what I read was right)
