Paint peeling off Red Hang Up Button?

Am I the only one with this problem? Now I have a big hole in the silver paint that shows red.

I use the red button a lot to lock the screen, but did not expect the paint to peel off.

Peeling off on mine. Has been for about a month. Just living with it. Thinking of going to Sprint store, but really don't want a new phone since I have mine exactly how I like it now

this happened to me 2 days ago...first it was just a bubble then i put it back into my pocket and next thing you know it peeled off...now it has a red dot on it...very annoying...

Mine still has all the paint on it, but I do have the Invisible Shield on the top of the buttons. :D

same to mine after a few months. it is never in my pocket and in a case when not in use. never dropped. the only problem so far with it. not wanting to take it in and them stick me with a refurbed one.

+1 for peeling paint. Both the green and red buttons. Started a couple weeks after I got the phone.

Both are now mostly completely peeled. Seems like cheap build quality.

Mine peeled off too, but I figured it was me pushing the button with my fingernail. I have stopped using my fingernail and got another Hero, will have to see how it goes.

The "paint" peeling issue is caused by poor metal plating. The base plastic is coated w/ a conductive ink then w/ a copper plating and then nickel plate. Once this is done it's cleaned and typically clear coated.
If done properly will last a considerable length of time, if not then it WILL peel. Also if not properly sealed w/ clear coat the oils in your skin WILL eat away at the copper under plating which causes the same issue.

Sprint choose and approved of this design so they are liable as is HTC for poor quality assurance e.g. it's a manufacturing defect.

no i could deal with paint coming off the buttons you want cheap build quality use a palm pre for 6 months and then have to get it replaced 4 times within the 6 months thats bad

Mine is the same way. Do not want to return my phone because I have it set how I like it,and it is pretty smooth,I can't wait for 2.1.

just a cosmetic thing really. Some people have actually scraped the paint away from both the green and red button, and it looks pretty sweet actually. My paint just recently started peeling, I assume more from me pressing it with my thumbnail than anything, but it's not a big deal

Anyone try using a scratch guard? You could modify a scratch guard by cutting it to fit around the trackball and cover the painted button area. Not sure if the green and red buttons would still be able to be depressed.

I stopped in a sprint store today and their live display model had paint missing on both the green and red buttons...I could not help but laugh. Really? The display model?
