I am not sure the terminology, but I believe it has to do with the bluetooth protocols used. I have a Parrot 3100 in one car and a Parrot 6100 in another. With my current HTC Evo 4G, the navigation works fine on the 6100, but since the 3100 doesn't do music like the 6100 does, I assume that is why the navigation doesn't come out from the 3100.
