Parse error for an apk download

bluefox23

Lurker
I have a Samsung Infuse and I want to download an apk file that is on a site and not the google play store. Everytime I try to download it it just shows this Parse error that it cannot parse the package. I've already checked the box in settings that allows unknown devices and it still says the same thing. Would I have to erase the factory data for it to download onto my phone?

A parse error in parsing an apk package is usually not a parse error, it's usually "this app needs a higher [or lower] version of Android than your phone is running". If that's the case, there's really nothing you can do. (It's why some apps won't show up in the Play store on some phones - if the app won't work on your phone, you're not given the chance to download it.)

It could also be parse error (parsing is basically reading the file to see what it's saying) but if there were one, everyone trying to install the app would get it, and the author would probably have fixed it long time ago.
