Root part way through rooting Desire

Please knock that last one off the list. It's not even a Rom. It's basically an old version of dev null, rebranded for no discernible reason. What drew you to it?

ok cool, many thanks. I was essentially looking for the a2sd option to be fair as my main criteria. So I'll have a good old butchers at the other 2 and jump in before the day is out :P

One thing to watch: the Aurora V6 thread doesn't seem to say how big a partition is needed, but it's based on a newer Sense version than that which came with the Desire. Those ROMs are usually too big to fit in the Desire's internal space, so use the partition to store part of the ROM, which means they often want a largeish partition - 1GB is often recommended.

aaah ok, I still need to remedy the partition really. If I have a partition of 512mb and decide to run gaprted and get a 1gb partition will this overwrite the current one or will I have 2 partions??

GParted can do either.

For a2sd storage 512MB is fine. It's just these "advanced Sense" ROMs that tend to need larger (irritating that there is no recommendation in that thread). If you are doing that, I'd note that the dev recommends ext4 as the format.

I should add that I've no personal experience of these ROMs - I dropped Sense back in 2010 and have never been tempted to go back to it.

cool man, my recovery tool has the option for ext3 should I use this? Or is Gparted really the best way to go?

I think I am going to go with the one you recomended as its my first time I think I'll cut my teeth on teh basics. I can see already that this might be very addictive so it wont be long till I get brave and try an non sense ROM

righto I appear to have had success, followed the video guide in for the VM player and have a ext 3 partition of 700mb (just incase) but there is also a small "unallocated" partition or file of 5mb between the front of the card (6gb) and the ext3 I did at the end. Will this be a problem?
