Thank you very much for the info. This is an embarrassingly long post, so I have moved two issues I need help with to the top, and I'll let most of you skip the details of my install/flashing saga unless you're interested. . . .but most everything is good actually right now, so never mind!!! (see next paragraph)
EDIT: 20 minutes after posting this and after doing a reboot, I was able to get into the screen and shut restore the default CM screen lock settings, seems ok for now, keeping fingers crossed...
and of course now Bluetooth is working, so atm, no need for help, but feel free to offer advice/jeers, whatever, thanks,

So,
But, now, after a couple hours...
the screenlock issue seems to be back. (described in more detail below... basically screen is locked and inaccessible to me. I had to CWM wipe data/factory reset (well, maybe I didn't have to, but I did). I can't take pictures for s***, but here's how the screen looks now. I am afraid that if I reboot it is going to go back to doing the same thing.
I know it's a terrible picture, but basically what's happening is that bottom 1" of screen looks to be covered in maybe the pulldown notifications menu, or a lock screen, there's faintly an image of a padlock in the center, but the screen is totally unresponsive. And also if I tap the power or volume buttons the screen turns off in a "weird" way, sorta like an old TV with tubes turned off... line in the center, then flash, off!
... I did just remember that just before the screen started doing this, I had changed some settings in the Cyanogenmod Display/Screen Lock settings... oopsy... guess that's not a good idea. If I ended up having to wipe data/factory reset again, I'll try to remember that.
And now Bluetooth will not turn on at all!!! It looks like it's trying, and then the box just gets unchecked again.

OK, here are all the details, steps I took, etc...
That's my experience so far with this custom ROM. It's nice & speedy, though. I did run a quick Antutu and it's totally running @ 900, much MUCH zippier than stock, and louder volumes, too.
I ended up following your advice and what I read in the checkrom.com guides about the SD card... and since I already had CWM (the plain Admire version) installed, I didn't even use Odin to flash the CWM/Kernel...
after doing a Nandroid backup, I mounted the USB storage, copied the backup to my PC, and copied the 4 flashable zip files for the CWM/Kernel ROM, CM7.2, gapps (the version dated 5/7 from
this link), and the Overclocked kernel to my SD card -- along with the Titanium "update.zip" I had run while last booted, to save me from having to enter my google account info, and download the app ... to restore settings...
I "rebooted recovery" after each update from the zip files. The flash went fine, except for these issues:
1. the Titanium zip totally did not install. CWM choked and reported something about not having permissions to the directory or something. Not a big deal. Seems not such a great idea to restore settings and/or apps that belonged to a different ROM, especially which ran on a different kernel.
2. The first couple of boots after flashing to CM7.2 the phone ended up at CWM and I had to manually select "Reboot system" to get it to boot up into the phone.
3. I was trying to install Swype from having downloaded the Swype installer from the Swype beta site, and got a notice on install that it was "replacing a system app" ... which seemed odd. I remembered that back on my old phone, an Ascend, I had used TiBackup to integrate Swype to the system. I looked inside my TiBackup and it did show Swype, the app showed as not installed. To try to fix it, I restored the app, then wiped the data & cache but it would not let me uninstall til I rebooted.
4. Not sure if it was that, or perhaps that I set up an unlock pattern in the cyanogenmod settings, but from this point on, upon rebooting the phone would show the boot animation, but stutteringly, and it didn't play as long as it had the on first couple of boots. But after I heard the vibration letting me know the SD card had been mounted, the screen didn't appear... just sort of had a light glow inside, and the phone would only respond to touch if I let it sit for a while. Plus even then the unlock screen wouldn't appear... was a messed up thing.
So now at this point I booted CWM, and did a "factory wipe/reset" to set the ROM back to install-freshness. So far it seems better, and I think I'll stay away from restoring apps/data with TiBackup.
Also on that first try, I had the triangle/data connection issues, but toggling Airplane mode did clear that up.
And after doing that wipe/reset, I was able to install Swype without incident.
