Root Partitioning SD Card.

Hey guys, I'm having problems partitioning my SD card. I format it, then run ROM Manager, set the Ext size to 512MB - the Swap size to 0MB, then it re-boots to complete it and fails. Any idea why this might be happening? I've tried multiple times.

Glad to see you took my advice then ;)

As much as I don't want to help you ruin your life with Rom manager, I will attempt to help you.

As with any technical problem, "failed" is not sufficient to describe your issue.

Please explain exactly what happened, including any error messages

Sorry I know you said about Gparted, but I was trying to stick with what (I thought) I knew to take as little risk as possible.

As I said when I choose the Ext & Swap size it then says "Partitioning your SD card will wipe ALL data on your card. Are you sure you want to reboot and continue?" I hit ok and it starts to reboot...

But all I get it a white triangle with a orange exclamation mark in the middle and a wee android fella below. I then have to manually reboot and my SD isn't partitioned.

Aw dam and now I'm getting a message on my notification bar saying "Blank SD Card" says it's blank or an unsupported file system. That wasn't there the last few times it failed.

Sounds like you didn't do the "Flash custom recovery" or "flash clockwork recovery" option (first menu in rom manager) first?

You may need to reformat your FAT32 partition, wiping all data (but it may be gone anyway).

I can link you to an application that may help retrieve SD files, but hopefully you backed SD up to PC first.

Yes, ROM manager doesn't use the recovery you flashed when rooting with unrevoked. It uses fake flash. Basically, you have to download recovery using that menu before you can do anything in rom manager (although I wouldn't recommend using rom manager for anything - especially not flashing roms or backing up as its riskier than using true recovery).

Once it downloads recovery to update.zip on your sd card, it will function. It reboots and applies update.zip to carry out the tasks you ask.

Thank you for taking the time to help me, much appreciated. I only use ROM Manager to partition the SD card, flashing roms, fonts, mods etc I do from the recovery mode.
