Help Password corrupted after "Settings has stopped working" while setting PIN

ethoma

I was setting a PIN on a Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I had entered the new PIN the first time, and just had to confirm the PIN to have it be set. At that time, I got the message "Unfortunately, settings has stopped" (or something close). Now neither the old nor the new PIN is correct.

So I went to Android Device Manager and set the lock password. The phone responded and now asks for a password instead of a PIN on the lock screen. However, the password is also not correct, even when I am sure I typed in the correct password.

It seems that the password is corrupted. Is there a way to get in the phone? Or is a reset to factory default necessary? I can provide more details if needed. Thanks.

Keep entering the wrong pattern until "Forgotten pin" appears on the screen and then click on the position on the screen where those words appear.

Then enter your Google account credentials to reset your device password.

The password cannot get corrupt. If the password window crashes for any reason then the password will not change and your password will be the same as your previous one.

If you deleted your old password believing it had been changed and only kept a new password then you might have to factory reset your device.
