Password dots in Google search weirdness...

This is the reply I just had from HTC.....

Dear Kayak23,

good afternoon, thankyou for contacting HTC. in regards to your desire hd and google searches.

turn instant beta on beneath the search box. At the bottom of the page there is the option to enable classic view. Both of these method's will turn the encryption off and display the characters.
you can also run your searches via the google search app as apposed to the internet.

thankyou for contacting HTC. I hope that this information meets with your requirements, should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Turning 'instand beta' on doesn't do anything, using the 'Classic' Google stops it, but its not so user friendly as using the mobile version....

HTC suggested a soft reset - take out battery with phone on wait 30 secs. Restart. Made no difference. Difficult to know if it's an HTC or Google problem.
I'm in UK but guess this is global issue.

You're right turning on instant beta does nothing and classic view ain't mobile view! Really annoying at this point....

I had exactly the same thing happen, research I did somehow got me to java script. I disabled it through settings and Google search went back to normal but websites were abnormal so I had to enable java script again!

These dots are annoying me to death. It works on classic, but I bought a phone so that I wouldn't have to use classic. I called T-Mobile and they have no idea what I'm talking about. I even went to a T-Mobile store and of course the one of the guys who helped me when I was buying a wall charger, his worked fine. I couldn't see what phoned he had from behind the register, I should have asked though

Yea mine is doing it also. Started out this morning. I restarted my phone and it was still doing it. I removed the battery and powered it back up and everything was fine. Then about 2 hours later its back at it again. I only have the issue using Google's webpage in mobile view. Classic view is ok but crappy to use. Darn smart phones...
Mytouch 4G.

How weird, I was just coming on here as my desire hd has just started doing this today and it is so annoying.

Will keep watching out to see if the problem gets solved.

I've merged the thread from the DHD forum to this one, since it seems to be a problem universal to all HTC phones.

I have a Mytouch 4g and it is doing the same thing. I removed my battery earlier and it worked fine for about 2 hours. Now its doing it again. :p

I was so excited to get my new Incredible S yesterday. However, I was so disappointed to have a problem with Google search today, where letters turn into dots as I type. I felt a little better when my Desire, that has never missed a beat, started doing the same thing. I'm new to the forum, so was slightly relieved to find that alot of you guys are having the same problem. I am able to search quite happily without problems from Google Search, so all is not lost. Also, my Desire has no longer got the problem!!! "Curiouser and curiouser" cried Alice.

On my Desire, turning off autocomplete in google settings seem to get rid of the dots for now. Eventually google would have to fix the problem, as autocomplete has a defect.

Strange. I have an EVO and my google search (app), google search/voice search widget both work fine.

I'll consider myself lucky.

My Inspire 4G, which has worked flawlessly up until today, is showing the same behavior described in this thread (google seach dots). And as a bonus, it now only allows me to call and or receive calls about 25% of the time.

I have an HTC Evo 4g and it started doing the same thing like 2 hours ago. I read this thread and my problem was solved when I turned instant beta on below Google search bat. My life is back to normal now. Thanks for all the info. New to the forum!

...All this time I have wasted of my life since I got a 'SMARTphone'.......

Has anyone contacted Google themselves?

This is happening on mine as well. Desire HD. Clearly Google have done some kind of update to Google Mobile in the past few days which has caused this. Dolphin Browser is doing it as well btw.
