Pretty much, the more secure the phone is, the more of a PITA its gona be to use lol. You have to think about how secure you really need your phone to be.
I dont use a lock but if someone stole my phone, they wouldnt be able to hack/steal anything else from me because theres no info on there that could make me lose money without a password
Another possibility is to use Tasker and an added plug-in that would allow you to turn off the locking if you were in a specific area (like the range of your office Wi-Fi) and turn it on when not in range.
You can, like others have mentioned disable your screen lock to make it simpler to use.
For some peace of mind, you could install Android Device Manager and get that all setup. Then if you leave your phone somewhere or if it gets stolen you can lock the device with a password from anywhere online. You will also be able to wipe data remotely if you want to and locate the phone on a map.
I recommend Safe Areas (wifi unlock). Basically it removes the PIN when you are connected to a trusted Wifi or Bluetooth device (as someone mentioned above but this is easier than Tasker). It is a good compromise between convenience and security.
