Help Pathetically inaccurate clock

It always infuriated me that I could not set the time from the internet using my iPhone. I thought it was amazingly crap that an expensive phone that is connected to the internet and has a gps receiver could not keep accurate time.

When I got my SGS2, one of the first things I was interested in was sorting this out. I downloaded ClockSync only to find that I still had to root the phone to allow it to set the time using ntp. Disappointing but not really a big deal so I did.

Although my phone now tells the time slightly more accurately, I still have to get ClockSync to correct the time at the shortest interval it permits, ie every 15 minutes (it's clearly not a proper ntp client) and even then, the phone is always more than a second out and at its worst has been 12 seconds out (ie almost a second a minute).

How is it that a phone that is connected to the GPS system and the internet cannot keep accurate time?

Being a second out is not really a problem but I think it should be capable of being millisecond accurate with the resources it has access to.

Is my clock particularly rubbish or is it typical of other SGS2s as well?

Cant say I ve noticed it being inaccurate to the point of worrying about it...

mine is fine, tried both settings and lost no time. how far out are we talking and are you going anywhere where you lose signal?

I agree with lotus49. My older non-smart phones always kept accurate time you could look at with a glance and know what time it was. With the things a smart phone can do, you saying keeping accurate time isn't one of them? My LG Optimus 2X has shown me 3 different times in less than 2 seconds after unlock. Its annoying to say the least.

If your clock is not updating and you have, "Automatic date and time", and, "Automatic time zone", checked in Settings... then either blame your carrier or make sure that you have data enabled, (otherwise the clock cannot update).

As for myself, on Vodafone, I find the clock to be a couple of seconds behind my wristwatch which is radio linked to the atomic clock.

I know O2 don't provide time updates. I have clocksync installed. I have it checking once a day which keeps time within a few secs. Which is good enough for me :D

Oh, and I don't think it's a smartphone thing. My work Nokia dumbphone is as useless at keeping time as my S2.
