I am looking for an unrooted way to backup everything to my PC since Samsung Kies failed. I selected everything from the menu including apps and preferences and it only backed up some prefs and the contacts...
This is Android, not iPhone. With Android you have to back everything up pretty much individually.
If you enter your contacts as Account contacts, not Phone contacts, they're backed up on Google Contacts at all times.
There are apps to back up your apps, messages, music and videos. Your email is backed up on the email server.
The fact that Android allows you to choose the method you prefer means that it forces you to choose which method to use - there's no default "iTunes" equivalent for Android, as much as Samsung tried with Kies.
If you have drop box you can backup your music and videos that u may have . the apps I don't think nothing that u can do but look into the play store and under my apps pick the apps that u want . everything that u got from the play store should be there . and as the other user said that Google contacts should sync
Helium can backup, sync and restore app data on non-rooted phones.
Double this with something like Dropsync to copy the backups and any other folder on your internal and external storage to a Dropbox account and everything should be covered
