One bite at a time...
Welcome to the Android Forums!
I believe the Somertek is actually a re-branded version of one of the known Chinese knockoff tablets. If it's the one I'm thinking it's running an old version of Android with an older/slower CPU. You may run into issues trying to find a PDF viewer to run successfully on this. Probably your best bet will be to post this question in the Tablets & Mids forum in hopes that someone knows of a lightweight PDF reader app that will run on that platform.
