Pendo Pad

Adark,
I have successfully flashed Froyo 2.2 on this device
With all the subsequent problems you mentioned, I'm not sure I'd classify it as a success! :D

Re the lack of support for Flash, think on the positive side. We're in the same boat as millions of ipad users! :p

Yes you are spot on Headlight ;)

It was only a success in that I managed to get Froyo to actually install and run on the device.

Android-S said in an earlier post, that it was not possible to run Froyo on the RK2818 processor but that is not true. The processor can run Froyo, but needs a kernel update for everything to work correctly.

I wish the kernel source was available for this device. That would make it possible to compile Gingerbread 2.3 for this device instead

Cheers!

I've had mine for a few weeks now and it's much what I expected. Not in the same class as my Samsung Galaxy S. Can't play angry birds or any other decent games, so it's really only useful for web browsing type things.

I am however impressed with the video playback. And the prepackaged video player is better than any I've found in the market place.

Problems:
1. for some reason it no longer charges via usb
2. seems the gyro has been installed upside down, works backwards for most applications.

Think i'll have to send it back.

I also found out that when you put shortcuts on the screen, if you press & hold the item, a garbage bin appears on the right side and you drag it across to get rid of it, everyday is a school day with this thing
Spotted in the manual on page 7! ;)

I wouldn't have thought USB charging would work at all; the charger is 9v so a 5v USB connection isn't going to transfer many ergs. USB charging isn't mentioned in manual, either.

Might be poor QA. Mine works fine, although I do have to sometimes ask myself which way is up! :)

I haven't been able to play MPEG 2 files. Anybody else have any luck with them? It's good with 900kbps H264 and Divx50; only occasional stutters.

Hi all, I have just won an auction on Ebay for one of these Pendo Pads and it is for my sons birthday. I haven't paid for it yet (and yes I realize if I don't pay I will get left a negative feedback) but just reading this forum thread I'm starting to have second thoughts about it.

It doesn't allow Flash is that right? Does that mean that you can't play games, or many games, on it? Playing games on it will be the main reason for my son having it so I really need one that he can play games on, so would you really recommend this pad or should I opt for a different one?

It won't play internet Flash movies (apart from Youtube) and it won't run Flash websites like Moshi Monsters. I understand it needs (but probably won't be getting) Android version 2.2 to support Flash. It currently only has Android 2.1. Perhaps you were misled?

I have only tried a few games, but it will run: Air Control Lite, Solitaire, Sudoku (as you can tell, I'm not a kid! :D).

On the Whirlpool forum:

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1608467

There's quite an extensive thread running, some posts mention games.

I didn't expect much but thought I would give it a try. I also got the wireless modem/router deal which works well although Pendo's wifi stuggles if your ar emore than 6 foot away. Follow the intructions you find here to better the battery performance. Keep it simple and you should get a few hours use from batter.
I recommend using dxtop as default home. Also for easeof use eyeonapps and jkappswitchex as a shortcuts for ease of use.
Makes a good ebook reader. Also good for budgeting. A good paper weight too:).

If I power off I have to reset date and time....This would be my biggest complaint

Also if I power off it takes several power off/ons to get the orientation working again

My power jack is loose and has to be connected just right or it wont charge.

Are these standard problems or is it just my piece of 'Pendo'?

No problems here on both issues.

This has been mentioned on the Whirlpool forum, but no problems here yet.

The biggest annoyance for me is that "Suspend" really just dims the screen -as soon as I touch it, bam, she's back up. Not helpful when it's in my bag and it gets bumped. I thought it might work like Suspend in Windoze.

Thanks for the app tips.

I must have a good one! :D

I have a new pad after swapping the old for a new one at the St Kilda office today. All those issues are sorted. It was faulty.....go figure hehehe
Happy days
Once again I was told at least a two week wait but received goods the next day....

was begining to attempt to root with z4root .
pendo pad Android 2.1 .
to see if i was able to gain deeper access into settings ect due to some cellphone protacols and templates still remaine in the pad slowing it or taking up un necesary space,
anyway,, i keep getting an error saying "Process.android.acore has blah blagh blahh... its not possable to reset the unit and or fact: restore due to no ability to get past error prompt,, is there any devices i can d load to suit/connect to my unit via usb cable and acess the pad??

Hi, someone mentioned previously about reading books with pendo.
I'm relatively new to this, so please be gentle with me.

How do I go about getting books onto the pendo.
Do I need an app (and not really sure where to get this from either).
Are there particular types of books I should be looking for?
And where would be the place to get these from?

As you can see, I need some help with this, so any advice would be appreciated :)

I received the Pendo pad today ordered late last week .
I have tried to change the clock time and delete photo's from the device no luck with either.
Also have tried to contact Pendo about a user Manual to see how it works but they don't answer emails it look like on top of that Dodo has put me on a no contract so they don't seem to listen either All the worker wanted to do at Dodo was sell me another mobile sim card for another phone everytime I said no thanks the Question comes up a Couple Min later
(Can anyone tell me how to change the time and delete photo's )

Many Thanks
Les
The user manual is available on the pendo pad website

Plug your USB lead into the top USB port on the Pendo. Two drives should appear in Windows Explorer: A "Rockchips" drive, which is the internal SD memory, and "Removeable Disk", being the SD card in the Pendo.

The lower USB slot can only be used with the modem, and make sure only one or the other (modem/USB lead) are being used at one time. You can't plug in both together.

Make sure its plugged into the bottom usb port, and go to settings and go to wireless @ networks tick the mobile network box, the internet stick will flash orange then flash green until its stays green, it may take a few minutes, also check it is activated through dodo, hope this helps , i too am new at this...lol

It should work; open up your Outlook Express and get the account settings from there, then insert them into the Pendo's email settings as you did with the other email accounts you set up. I have my email account with iinet working well.

It does take some time to eventually connect. But if it hasn't done so after say 5 minutes, then your 3G signal from Optus (Dodo's provider) probably isn't strong enough. My Pendo wouldn't connect 30 floors up in the Brisbane CBD!

Potentially tricky bits are:

Incoming mail: mine is set to port 110, and outgoing mail is set to port 587.

I am Australian and have got the Dodo Pendo pad and it works great. I am a 63 year old woman so am still learning. Seems easy enough for me have been playing and learning with it.
