I can't seem to figure this one out. Why do some of my contacts have a field in the People app named "Send Message" that I can use to send SMS messages?

You answered your own question within the question itself: so you can send them a text message

This is only available for mobile numbers, by the way.

Yeah, I figured out my problem. I had someone's mobile number listed as "home" and I was not getting the "send message" option.

How do you edit this app to change primary way to contact them.... or delete them? Good grief....
