Help People (htc contacts) Crashes when entering new contact

I suddenly am having an issue when I try to add a new contact to People (htc contacts app). When I click save, I get the error message:

Sorry! The application People (process com.android.htccontacts) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. *Force Close button at bottom of the message.

Any ideas?

I'd power down your phone.. pull your battery for a few.. reinstall and power the phone back up. I'm not familiar with your particular problem but normally a reboot will fix such things. I hope this fixes your problem.

I tried that one already. I'm thinking that I may just do a factory reset. Phone has been running slowly lately. When I press 'home' button, it takes 5-7 seconds to load the home page. It used to snap to it instantly.

Yep I have the same problem now my HTC Desire has upgraded to Android 2.2. Wasn't a problem before and I don't use the Facebook account or link contacts to facebook. I've tried resetting the thing more than a few times but still can't get rid of the problem. Good phone otherwise but very irritating not being able to add a new contact. Anyone else got around this issue?
