People i talked to are saying i sounded muffled to them, like i have something wrapped around the phone. I have no case on the phone and nothing covering the speaker. I hold the phone on the sides when i talk. Someone suggested changing the CMDA settings, that didn't help. Is this a known issue, any other suggestions? I hear people just fine.

I saw a similar post for the of moto droid. It was a factory defect where the strip of metal that vibrates to let the phone know to increase noise cancellation was vibrating too much. They solved it by installing a small strip of paper to keep it from moving. The result was no noise cancellation at all, but there was no more muffled sound.
I would take the phone back to Verizon. Get it switched out because you're going to live with this phone for a while. It should work properly.
