Perception vs. Cognition (Captivate)

Which came first (not the chicken or the egg) ... Perception or Cognition?

I've tried Cog, Serendipity and now Perception. Seems like Perc. is a little faster.

What are your thoughts on performance comparisons?

Thanks for the help !

I believe the difference is Perception is based on the Vibrant ROM and Cognition is a native Captivate ROM. Other than that I'm not sure.

perception is based off the i9000, cognition is based on the captivate. other than that they are pretty much the same

Correct, the only problem i have with I9000 roms is when you place a call the person on the other end has always told me I sound bad and there is static. I believe the reason is the I9000 does not have the Noise suppression like Captivate does. I have been using Cognition every since and everything just works.

I've asked several people how I sound on their end, and all have said I sound fine. I know this is a function of the modem, they are easily swapped out so you can find the one that works best for you.

Both were made by the same person, so it can't be that much different from each other. But yeah, as stated before, one is Captivate-specific while the other isn't.

Can anyone comment on the quadrant scores of the three? While I know that the quadrant score isn't the end all be all, by any stretch, it would be interesting to see the comparisons.

I have perception, installed from 10.1 and updated to 10.2 I average around a 1660 on my quadrant score with nothing else done to the phone beyond installation of the rom.

When it's a virtually meaningless number, I fail to see what's interesting about its results.

RANDOM.ORG - Integer Generator

DesignGears (the maker of both) tends to flame anyone who even mentions Quadrant in his ROM threads.

As I said, I understand that it isn't a terribly important number. I was also, as I said, simply curious. My apologies, some may consider it a flaw I suppose.

Cognition came first in Eclair form with lag fixes OCLF, voodoo 2, Cog 2.1.#, then went to Froyo; 2.2 beta#; to the current 3.04 with voodoo 5 based on the Rogers Captivate Froyo.

Perception was based on I-9000 and Vibrant roms, current Being I-9000 ased on JPX kernel source (Android firmware 2.2.1) and the JK4 modem with HSDPA supporting higher upload/download speeds over AT&T network and Voodoo 5+.

They are actually quite different from each other unless you mod them. Quadrant (useless other than making sure voodoo is enabled) about 1600 on both, but real world performance is where the speed of the roms is noticeable especially scrolling web pages, through the apps and gallery.

They are about even there depending on the kernel and modems being used. GPS, for me any way, is excellent with the correct settings. Perception does tend to use more battery as a lot of I-9000 roms with 2.2.1 firmware do. I use Speedmod K12P and get all day use (20 hrs normal use) out of Perception 10.2.
