Root perm root issues. su denied

maybe its because im a winmo user. ive been trying to root my shift for the passed 24hours. yes, thats right. ive taken some breaks here and there, and i slept for 3 hours....where i dreamed black and red command prompt....seriously.

im about to give up, pack up and go home (so to speak).

i just wanted to root my phone and get rid of the sprint bloat, maybe some tether action.

i dont even know where to start to explain where i am in my steps, maybe because im so frustrated and exhausted from this.

i followed SHMaRiM's "Rooting an HTC EVO Shift for Dummies!"

and got lost at command prompt "su", where i got denied. ive been trying to figure out what i did wrong... and this whole experience has made me feel like a complete moron. if anyone has any advise, it would be greatly appreciated...if not, im just going to go cry in the corner and apologize to my touchpro2 for disowning her.
 
i might add... under system variables [C:\AndroidSDK\platform-tools] the Variable value is:[%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Ulead Systems\MPEG;C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\Core-Static;C:\Program Files\Intel\WiFi\bin\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\DivX Shared\;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\]

im just a chem geek, but that doesnt look right. or am i wrong? i have no idea. temproot worked fine, from there..thats where i think i made a blunder somewhere.
 
Sounds like you aren't temp rooted to me... I am not going to be much help, bro, I'm all jacked on painkillers from my wisdom teeth being removed yesterday, but I will try!

Anyway, can you dl a root only app? Like wifi tether, or titanium backup? If you can't, you aren't temp rooted.

sooo, then. since im not temp rooted, can i just start over... or is there anything i need to do first.

keep in mind, ive been a winmo gal for sometime, but that doesnt make me stupid, just stubborn.

Bro is my last name, so totally weird for me to call someone that (spelled differently, of course)

Anyway I don't know about WinMo, beside the fact that Android is betterer. Stubborn is good. I would suggest taking a smoke break, or whatever your passion is and starting fresh. Follow the commands he specifies in the thread I linked. once you get to a spot where you hang, post up exactly where you are and I will see if I can help.
 
i didnt get that far... im on the "Instructions for setting up Adb/Fastboot (windows)" and since i dont have htcdrivers.exe, i tried to install it using pda.net.... i stopped the adb.exe tht was running and the pda.net installed the driver, set up network, but it seems a little frozen as its supposed to be installing to the phone.
 
Install pdanet on your pc for the drivers, and the pdanet app from the market on your phone.
 
ok, outside the cmd, when you plug in the phone, does anything happen? Does the pc recognize the phone?
 
Then you should be able to move forward with rooting. Make sure you are temp rooted, and try starting over.
