Permanently illuminate four android buttons?

You know the four android buttons (menu, home, back, and search from left to right on the Atrix)?

Is there a reason they only illuminate every once in a while?

I have my brightness set to automatic, but I don't believe that's the source of the problem.

I would personally enjoy being able to keep them constantly illuminated, or at least control them like I can control the brightness of the display.

I know it's kind of a menial request, but I'm just wondering..

the bottom capacitive buttons dim or turn off based off the light sensor, no matter what your brightness setting is set at.

If theres enough light, it will turn them off, saving battery.

So, it's completely impossible to make an application controlling them?

Even with root access?

possibly, not sure if anything on the market now will work. keep an eye out at the development atrix forums on XDA
