Ok, I need to pay back all the folks who helped me make my decision about the Rezound.
BTW, I did go to Best Buy and they did price match with the Wal-Mart online wireless price. So, I paid $219.00 for the phone on an upgrade account. This was in the Seattle area so YMMV at your location.
First impressions: the screen is beautiful. I actually like the slight weight and heft. This phone is not fat or heavy unless you are comparing it against an envelope or a feather. Build quality is very high with a feeling of being a piece of very high-end equipment. The phone fits in my small guy-type hands and I can use it either one handed or with two. The shape is perfect for me and the look to me is elegant.
Call quality is excellent! I don’t know what some of the “official reviews” are talking about when they criticized call quality. Calls made to local friends and across the country sound natural and clear on both sides of the conversation. I can easily understand my 2-year-old granddaughter and she immediately recognized my voice, for example.
The audio is very good but I was not blown away by the Beats probably because I am a music freak and my current mp3 player and ear buds are already top of the line. I would say that the included ear buds are good for sound quality and fit but they are very flimsy and I don’t expect them to last very long in real use. I know that HTC marketing is pushing the Beats but I think that they should be pushing everything else.
Did I say that I love the display! This is the best display I have ever seen!
This phone is fantastic for calling people (yes, I’m over 50), texting, email, GPS, PDA and surfing. I gave this a quick try on all these uses but only for a first look. Other than these, I can’t think of any use for this phone at all, lol.
It is fast and picks up 4G even in the fringe area where I live (in the country) but mostly at home I am on 3G. It works as a cell phone in places in this area that my previous phone did not.
The initial negatives are that I wish the ON button was a bit more protruding so as to be easier to use since you need it wake it up a lot. I wish I could change the home screen to something I like better but this could be me not knowing how to do it yet. The charging cord needs to be longer, a lot longer!
My wife keeps trying to steal it from me even though her Droid is less than a year old. Two of my friends who have iPhones are also trying to trade with me and another friend who just bought a Bionic is taking his Bionic back to exchange it for the Rezound, for some reason. But, I digress.
Over the next few days, I’ll put together some real life experiences.
