Help personalized contact text tone

when I try to assign a personalized notification to a contact when they text me it plays the default notification anybody know why thanks in advance

Are you assigning the notifications in the text app?

yeah but when the person texts me it always plays the default tone

Assign it in the contact. Open the contact then you'll find 'Message Alert' towards the bottom. Works for me.

Also, if you're using a 3rd party messaging or notification app, they will often interfere with the stock one. Sometimes they will take full control, other times they will play alongside the stock one.
