Root PG86DIAG.nbh

so this seems to be a unique problem. loading hboot (jbear shooter 1.57.5757) i'm getting an invalid image message. it's been like this for a while but it hasn't effected anything really. it's been bootlooping for some roms that shouldn't or haven't always.

i want to say it started when i flashed an evo 4G (rather than 3D) rom, but i don't really know. i'm still getting used to the android os.

so, i'm not familiar with the DIAG.nbh file or it's purpose...but i need a stock rom ( i think? ) so i can update my phone number. at the moment VM thinks i have a new number and my phone thinks i don't.

thanks!

i didn't catch this before... there's also PG86IMG.nbh

also maybe just knowing where my phone number is stored / how to change it. i'm running debian on my laptop with the sdk and multiple roms and a couple of recoveries.

also! last time i looked at phone info in mobster rom it said hardware version 002 but how do i verify that? i have a nagging feeling that's not right...

so...i flashed new stuff (hboot 1.58, 1.09 radio, 2.95 build, along with twrp 2.5 and mobster rom) and i'm still not getting anywhere. i can't seem to get my version back low to flash any stock roms i've been able to find. my nandroid backup was lost some time back.

everything i try ends in a CID error.

really? no one?

well, update then. in fastboot RUU i'm getting flash fails due to a " 42 custom id check failure " ...and now it seems to be on just about everything (butteredtoast went on, but not mobster)...from recovery is saying " unable to execute binary in zip "

...i kind of want my phone back and don't have time to wade through files i'm not familiar with...i have kids and a business and it's finals week. this is stressing me out.

Which phone do you have? Is it the Sprint Evo 3d, or the Virgin Mobile Evo V?

And which RUU are you trying to run?

virgin mobile. i've been using the android sdk and tried variations on:

Code:
#./fastboot erase cache
#./fastboot oem rebootRUU
#./fastboot flash zip Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_2.89.651.2_deodex.zip

It's really hard to follow everything you have done to the phone and determine exactly what is wrong.

I would download the Virgin Mobile RUU: Goo.im Downloads - Browsing ruu
and run that. It will return you to stock and fix any problems. It will not remove s-off though so it's easy to re-root from there if desired.

I would do that though to get up and running again, and then we can go from there and make a plan if you are wanting to flash a custom rom.

thanks, i'll try that ... that's a windows .exe, eh?

i've done tons to it. i just don't know why getting it back to stock is so damned difficult.

Yep windows exe. Just run it and follow the instructions. Best to put the phone in fastboot usb mode for the ruu. It returns everything to stock. It's basically the ultimate recovery tool.

This looks like you're trying to use fastboot to flash a recovery-flashable Rom. Wich will not work. ;)

Following brians advice should get you up and running

i've tried several of the stock roms i've found but it only seems to like mobster and unsenseable out of what i have. i don't seem to have the same trouble flashing standalone kernels. i had been using twrp 2.2, now have 2.5 on there. i've also used 1.1 and 4ext in the past. wiping everything (including using modified superwipe) except the sd card (with a couple different sd cards) 1-3 times before attempting flash.

i'm about to try the ruu brian posted. *crossing fingers* ...i had vm set up my new number on an lg optimus slider i have, but good lord what a downgrade...

okay, it's updated! how stupid was all that. for the first time i guess i have an actual reason for having windows.

thanks guys...reflashing twrp now.

good question. can you not just dial *xxx and update prls? (*228 on vzw)

ive got an LTE evo flashed to vzw prepay, and changing roms doesnt seem to affect it.

Not on aosp roms, just stock based roms. There is a roundabout way to do it using the sdk. But what most people do is make a backup, flash a stock based rom, update, then restore their backup :)

oooooh :o fpr some reason id thot hed run an RUU and was stock!

This thread should really be in the Virgin ATR sub Forum.
prolly should... when i click on email links i alot of times have no idea what forum im actually in :p

Twrp 2.5 is shit. 2.4 worked with more ROMs because 2.5 has a different way of dealing with installing ROMs. You want to use 4ext for this phone.

well. that's what i was trying to do in order to update the prl. i was looking for a workaround in the sdk but i wasn't finding it.

also, i thought the 3d forum was the vm one... oh well.

Nope has it's own Sub, makes it less confusing for others. cheers

hatred: yeah i had it on there for about 20 minutes yesterday before i went back to 4ext.

mostly smooth since then. for some reason mobster is still going about 12 hours before hanging and screwing with battery stats. i'm back to unsenseable with butteredtoast now and only glitched because, being the genius i am, managed to get an ubuntu precise build.prop to basically merge with the shooter one.

...don't even ask.
