Phone as modem through USB?

Wait, I'm confused. I installed and used pdanet, which worked perfectly. Is there a cap on it and will i have a $300 bill? I thought it was an unlimited plan??

You'll be fine. PDAnet is different from the tethering Sprint offers. As for the unlimited thing, I'm pretty sure that's what the $10 fee covers.

its included in HTC sync program that you install on your PC off your SD card.... and theres a test thread that stats it works pretty good on 3G

You cannot do 3G tethering for free with the built in Android app, HTC sync or not. Right now in 4G areas it is working until July...but you can't do free wired tethering with stock apps. That is a fact.

Do you have to install an app on both sides (phone and PC) for Easy Tether to work? I believe that's the way PDA Net works.

You do, but it's very easy. It was so beautiful when i did it...

Went to the link in Easy Tether to download the small Pc component on my Evo. Downloaded the file to the phone, connected the phone to my PC, "mounted" it, and then dragged the file onto my laptop desktop, installed it, then followed the instructions (you have to put the Evo in Usb debug mode)... and I was on the internet. It was satisfying when it started working... Sprint wanted to charge me $15/month to tether which is what they call "phone as modem," but this free work-around just made me smile. Now I can tether over 3G for free anywhere I get reception on my laptop. I can't try it with 4G because we have none here in my part of Florida.

Now, as soon as Froyo is released and native Wifi hotspot capability will be added... i'm sure there will be a workaround to the current $30/month Sprint wants to charge you for that.

I do prefer the WinMo way of tethering - no programs needed to be installed on the computer. Oh well, this will have to do. Now, where's my tub of Vaseline?
