Root Phone Backup clarification question

JAW2004

Newbie
Ok....I keep reading about backing everything up, and the term "Nandroid.' Duh. What the heck does that mean? Is that a specific program used to do the backup? I have Titanium Backup . can I use it? of course, My phone is only rooted...don't have a custom ROM yet, so will TB put it on my SD card?

I'm sorry for all the questions. If this were a desktop PC, I'd have been done weeks ago!

I just want to make sure I don't screw up my phone. I'm actually starting to love my little Hero now that it's rooted.

Thanks for all the help!

If you use custom ROMs, then you manage those ROMs via a custom recovery menu.

Two of the options on the custom recovery are namdroid backup and restore, which copy your phones entire internal memory to the sdcard.

Its useful for switching between ROMs or recovering your phone if you do something wrong.

I understand what the custom ROMs are; I just don't understand how to do the actual Nandroid backup. Or is it simply a command code?

As far as I'm aware, using the custom recovery menu I mentioned is the only way to do one.
