Help Phone Charging With Data Cable An Issue?

TVCCS

I've run into an issue with my V that I'm wondering if others can replicate, or not, as the case may be. I was awakened this morning to the sound of my V stuck in a reboot loop with a discharged battery, even though I'd had it plugged into my laptop all night via the data cable. I checked the USB ports and they were all powered as normal.

I read elsewhere that the OEM charger is rated at 700mah (it is), and a normal USB port is only 500mah. Which makes me wonder if the V can only be charged with a "real" charger, which for me, as someone that travels a lot, is a pain....I hate carrying a whole strip full of chargers. The Intercept I have seems okay with a data cable charge. When I plugged the V into a car charger this afternoon, it came right back up to 100% in a hurry.

This reminds me of some USB portable hard drives, DVD burners and some PCMCIA cards that required the power of a second USB port to operate properly. But I've never seen, and can't find, any sort of twin USB to single Micro USB cable out there...they usually go as splitters in the opposite direction.

I been using the Optimus V now for about a week (my first Android phone)
I use the data cable that came with the phone to charge the phone at night.

I plug the cable into a belkin mini travel surge protector/power strip that has two powered usb ports on it also.

It charges fine from there.

I havent used that cable yet on my laptop so cant give you feedback on that yet.

It seems to have gotten a little better...but when the battery gets low...a USB connection from a laptop struggles to get it back up to a full charge...the battery wants that full 700mah.
