Hey even my contacts are lost.. I have been using Samsung Galaxy S since almost 10 months and this is the first time ever that happened.. :(
I have like 200 contacts and lost all of them,.

Android team can you please help recover them?
p.s - I didnt back it up anywhere , I was too confident with android.

Welcome to the Android Forums!

Typically there are a couple of ways that contacts are normally stored... locally on the phone and sync'd to your primary email service (if your primary email service provider supports this). For either of you, did you set up a GMail account as your primary email service provider?

To verify that your contacts are syncing to your primary Gmail account, go to a PC and log into Gmail using a web browser. Click on contacts and manually verify that the contacts are there. If they are not then either you've got something other than Gmail as your primary email service provider... or your contacts are defined as local.

If your contacts are local there are apps in the Android Market that would allow you to move them in bulk to Gmail...

Hi Martimus,

Thanks a lot for your response. Appreciate it.

Basically the problem is I have saved it only locally. Even when I synced it (before losing contacts) , it never got synced back to gmail. GMAIL is the primary email acct on my phone. Its like one way Gmail-> Phone but not Phone-> Gmail. And I havent backed up anywhere as well.

I m wondering how this could happen just like that:eek:

Sheriff_009... if the contacts would not sync back to Gmail then there's a good chance that Android thought they were local contacts.

While I cannot speak for your Android device, my Droid X syncs back and forth with Gmail properly... as does my Xoom.

Ok so I got a problem

contacts just disappeared. Flat out.

I have all those filters on, [everything is clicked on, phone, sim, facebook twitter...etc]

but only my gmail ones show which is like 3! and the At&t ones ?

so wtf happened?

even when I put on "show sim contacts" it only shows like less then 10, wtf?
so clearly the contacts are still there? but have a problem showing them?

BTW I know this is for the EPIC
but I have a galaxy S captivate

everything else on the phone works fine, all my calendar stuff is there, all my apps
only my contacts are affected.

can someone please enlighten me cause this problem makes no sense.

BTW i know this is for the epic
but I have a captivate

I had the same problem, and did an import which imported all my contacts back from all my accounts, but it put them in groups under the Groups Tab (right next to the Contacts Tab). Hope that helps!

I upgraded my Epic from 2.1 Friar to 2.3 Gingerbread. I got tired of waiting for the OTA to come out for Froyo or Gingerbread. Anyway thought contacts were saved to SD Card and not phone. Lost all my contacts with the reboot is there anyway to recover those numbers. Anyway that they are still on phone. If they are please tell me where, Anybody?
