Help Phone dialer

Perhaps this was answered and hopefully I'm crazy, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do two calls..

If I make a call and want to put that one on old, I hit menu and hit 'add call' I then can dial the other number and easily switch back and forth it seems.. but if I want to end a particular call i can't.. When you hit end call it kills both of them??

What am I doing wrong?

Sorry actually i stated that incorrectly.. It seems 'add call' is for conferencing.. I can go into 'add call' and dial another number, but if I want to switch to the other call it conferences them. How the heck do I put a call on hold to make another seperate call?
