Phone dilema

Good evening all!!

I currently own a HTC EVO4g LTE and have always loved the phone. But, as like any good thing, it must come to an end. The phone isnt as fast and crisp as it once was. My dilema is what phone do I want to buy.

I'm torn between the M8 and S5. Both seem to be a sure thing and I'm sure I'll be happy with either. The kicker is that I've been reading about the next gen of smartphones going to 64bit and also running Android 5.0.

My current phone is still working fine and I probably could hold out until the end of the year but I definitely would like a phone that is faster. Is there plans for a 64bit phone with 5.0 to hit the market this year? Should i play the waiting game or just pony up and buy a phone now?

My biggest fear is buying one of these phones and 4 months later, the newest phone with a ton of new technology comes out. I know that with anything you buy, the newest version is right around the corner and you'll always be playing catch up.

Any advice/input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hey there :)

I've moved your thread over to the device/carrier forum as that's what it's pointed more towards.

If it was me, I'd go for the M8, no particular reason. Just my preference as I'm turned off of Samsung here lately.

If you can hold off until later this year, have you put any thoughts into the Galaxy Note 4 when it's announced/released later this year? Or even the new nexus when it's released later this year as well?

Cheers and good luck

If you're looking at HTC and Sammy then, even if Google do go 64bit in Oct/Nov, the S5 and M8 aren't about to be replaced for nearly a year - your best (actually, probably only) option would be the Nexus that Google would announce at the same time.

Personally, I don't think anyone's going to be coming out with phones with a ton of new technology anytime soon: essentially, there's been nothing new in smartphone tech since Nokia added a GPS chip to the N95 - even touch screens pre-date that.

All we've had since is bigger and faster. Don't know about you, but my current phone is quite big and fast enough .. not that that will stop me upgrading sometime in the next year or so, of course ;)

I've never considered at Note 4. That is a phablet, correct? I would have to play with one of those monsters and see how I like the added size.

Never had a nexus phone. I do like the idea that the phone isnt preloaded with all that extra junk on it.

That's correct, the note 4 is considered a phablet, if you do like large phones, it's one to definitely consider.

I've never owned a nexus myself, but with all my devices I've always rooted and flashed aosp (nearly stock android).

You just don't have that sometimes lag with stock android as you would with TouchWiz, LG Ui, Sense etc

That's why I brought up the nexus above. Plus stock android looks alot better than the skins on top.
