Phone doesn't shut off while charging.

Called a Samsung rep about why my phone doesn't stay off when it's charging and they told me that was a feature included in the new jellybean update for the epic touch 4g. Ridiculous. I liked to shut my phone off at night. Now it won't do that unless I am not charging the phone. Try it for yourself. Turn the phone off and plug in the charger. Come back in a few minutes. It will be on. Unless you're one of the lucky ones. I confirmed this feature on 4 ET4G's.

That's good to know, there is someone in another thread that is having that same "problem".

Update: nm, it was you. Lol

Yeah. I wanted to start a new thread so that people would have a chance to see it. I hate that feature. I should be able to turn my phone off.

How long do you have to wait? I am trying this on GB27, and so far it is not turning itself on. It is just displaying the big battery indicator if you tap the power button, like it always has..

It varies. Sometimes its a minute. Sometimes its an hour. Im sure with all software updates, different factors affect certain features. So it may not happen for you. But it did on the 4 I tested. Its become pretty regular at about 5 minutes or less now though. Even if I pull thr battery, put it back in, connect the charger cord and leave it off, it still goes on.

Before I called Samsung I tried 3 different batteries because I thought maybe it was a battery issue. Happened with all 3.

That sounds more like a kernel panic happening for some reason, and not an actual feature.

I just turned my phone off, then plugged it in, then came back 30 minutes later and it was still off and charging. So yeah, how long does it take before your phone turns off?

I am running the pre-rooted GC01 full-restore (one-click pc executable) from the following link, and I haven't run into any bugs at all yet (other than the connection optimizer "feature"). No bugs, stock GC01 flashes already rooted, modem works just fine. This rom is really good:

Now if you try this rom and it still keeps turning itself on, and you can't handle this behavior, then consider buying one of those wall chargers where you have to take the battery completely out of the phone before attaching it to the wall charger. Your phone can't turn on if the battery's out and it's not plugged in.

Yeah. Thats what I was thinking. It could also be that the Samsung rep had no idea what he was talking about. But I've tried 3 versions of Agat's and the stock kernel and it did it on all. So, i am just going to accept that I can't shut my phone off while charging. Sucks, but I guess I can live with it.

You can always put your phone in airplane mode while charging. That way it will at least stay asleep while charging, and not wake from a text or call etc..
