Help Phone gets 'stuck' when updating

My phone is still on the software version it came with when I bought it. Recently I've been having the multiple texts problem, so decided to update the firmware via Kies as a few people said that helped (even though it wasnt *the* 2.2 update).

Kies downloads the firmware fine, then the phone displays a 'downloading' screen, with an Android digging or something...this is the screen the phone gets stuck on. I waited an hour, and even tried a few more times but no luck. Does it really take more than an hour, or is there some other issue?

No, it doesn't take over an hour.

The good news is: I had the same the first time around. Just unplug it, get it to reset (unplug the battery if needed), boot it again and then try upgrading again. Second time worked fine for me.

In your experience, perhaps, it doesn't take more than an hour but there are many factors which determine how long something takes.

Given that the step which takes the extended time here is the download from PC to phone then that is dependent on the ability of the PC to send that data and the speed of the USB connection. Not all people have brand new PCs with the fastest USB ports.
