Help Phone has been extremely laggy lately...

Well my Charge has been fantastic up to just late.

It is extremely laggy and non-responsive. The dialer takes forever to open... when I press call it takes up to 20 seconds for it to register the touch. The message icon takes forever to go away even when there are no unread messages.

Just overall lag when opening the app drawer, calling, opening apps... etc.

Maybe rooting is the answer? But up till now I cant find a good how-to write up.

Thanks for any assistance.

Just eliminating the first step. ;)

Try clearing out your call logs, etc (i find that "historyeraser" works well for that. It may help with the dialer lag.

Do you have a ton of apps on the phone (on internal or sd storage)?

There is a built in delete function within the call log. It works well and allows you to select all or choose individually. My dialer was not slow but I used it anyway and it almost instant now. Thanks for making me look into this. I will use it from time time to clean up the call log.

No problem. I like the app because I can clean up a lot of things really quickly.

Edit: the one by dumapic is the once I use

This may seem stupid but go to settings/display settings/animations/ and select no animations. I was noticing a lot of lag and that simple trick made a surprising amount of difference.

I just did that and it seemed to make things a little snappier. What is that setting even doing? What animations are they talking about?

I discovered a long time ago that my PC is a lot faster with the desktop animations turned off. Since then every time I set up Windows one of the first things I do is disable them. So naturally the first thing I did with my DC is disable transition animations.

Now I use Launcher Pro and I've toyed with the different transitions when changing home screens. I've found that I just really can't abide that garbage. I went right back to no animation. It surely has to be better for battery life. Of course I don't really know since I never use it.

I'd suggest no animations to anybody.

What animations are stopped? I checked no animations. I use go launcher and it still does the cool changes between home screens.

Hmmm, my charge is as speedy as ever.

I think when you check no animations, that ONLY applies to touchwiz.

go launcher should have it's own settings as well

That's what I thought as well. Even though animations are off in the default settings they still animate in Go Launcher (which is way better than Touchwiz anyways.

Anyways, I rooted my phone and uninstalled/freezed a good chunk of the bloatware and i usually hover around 160 MB of free RAM compared to 60MB be4 I rooted.

If I allow all the animations to run the apps start in the middle and expand to the edges of the screen. When I close them they shrink to the center before they go off. When I go through the settings the pages slides in from the side.

I consider that to be just useless work for the unit to be doing. I really prefer to see apps and settings screens just pop on and off all at once. When I slide a home screen I prefer to see it quickly slide over and stop.

I'm not saying it's wrong to have all the animation. I just prefer not to. That's got to be easier on the battery.

It's all the bloatware that Verizon adds. It would be great to buy a phone and have it work the way it should out of the box.
