Phone heat.

So I've had my atrix a few days and love the phone. I was just wondering if other people's phones are getting really hot. The battery app I use battery booster had a little temp thing on it that displays the temp. normal range for the phone is about 30 C 90F. The highest I have seen it was today while using gps it got to 45c 114-115F. At that point the phone is pretty hot. What kind of temps are other people seeing?

It gets pretty warm when in the cardock. I know this due to practically burrning my leg (ok, not THAT hot, but pretty warm) after pulling the phone from the cardock and slipping into my pocket.

I'm getting my Atrix tomorrow and this somewhat worries me. I remember when my roommate overclocked his Droid X it got really hot and it worried him so much he cranked it down again but I just don't want the phone to be hot all the time and increase the speed of hardware problems.

its not hot all the time. This was the first time I have seen it get that hot. It was in direct sunlight in my car with music playing gps on and texts coming in so the phone was doing a lot of stuff.

The day my battery died without talking in about 4 hours the phone was hot all day. Since that time and a full drain and recharge, i've not had the high heat problem. It does get somewhat warm, but not hot anymore.

I don’t have the Atrix yet, but have experienced my phone getting hot to 115 F. I have a backflip that gets hot when using the GPS, Streaming music and the screen being around 50% brightness. My phone starts to lose its mind and sometimes reboots. When I turn down the screen brightness, that has helped. Also, when the phone is in direct sunlight, it will heat up. (I love the battery widget with temp. read out.) comes in very handy. The screen by itself, gives off a lot of heat, not to mention the processor. If you have cooler air circulation around the phone, this should help.

Yea that was another reason I took mines back, that thing cooked and got a Nexus S. There where other reasons but this was one of significance

Hot would be around 80C and not 45C. When you use 3G and the radio is working non-stop all the time how is it supposed to stay not-hot?

Sorry I meant to say the temps were in Celsius. Converted to Fahrenheit normal operating temps are 89-95 deg. While using my GPS thats when it spiked to 113. Just playing games like dungeon defenders the temp stays around 105-109. Sorry about the confusion

I have noticed my Atrix getting hot after heavy video use. I do not have the battery widget installed so I cannot give an accurate temp, however, this concerns me.

Just sitting on my desk, screen off, idle, it's holding about 80*F.

I have felt it get REALLY warm. This was while I had the GPS on (Playing with mapping app), streaming through pandora over WiFi and transferring files to it from my Laptop by BlueTooth... all at the same time. It did get up to about 102*F.

That being said, the CPU was working hard, and all 3 radios were running max.

Think of all it's doing. Think of a computer when you run something like a processor intensive game in on it. Now, does the Atrix have massive heatsinks and fans to cool the cpu? No, but it should.

This is one of those things that is going to have to be user managed. When you feel it getting hot, you are working it too hard. Time to let it rest and cool back down.

Give her 9! Multitask the sh*t out of the atrix! Thats what its made for, if it heats up who cares? Heat comes from using your battery, it gives off more heat in less time when you use it more (should go without saying but i guess not...). If you dont want your phone to get warm, dont use things that are going to stress the cpu. Or get an iPhone so you never have that problem because the CPU never gets stressed with their version of "multitasking".

I've got a case coming the mail so it should provide a slight buffer. I wouldn't want to go back to a fruit phone. I left it for the atrix and have been really happy with the atrix so far. i was just wondering if that type of heat was normal.

I've seen it when using one of the map apps. don't remember which one. Had to shut it down in task manager. Phone cooled off quickly. Had it do it once where I took it off the charger, and had to reboot. Keep in mind along with the battery that it is a dual core cpu. Lotta heat from baby if taxed. But I like my Atrix and am happy with the purchase. It's just that AT&T.........

So far it's hit 39'C when heavily tasked while charging. But that's the battery temp, not the CPU temp which should be much higher. But from what it feels like in my hand compared to the HTC Desire I have, it gets a bit hotter more often. But logically I would attribute that to the dual-core's greater heat dissipation. Remember, if it's not warm on the outter casing, then the heatsink is not working. It shouldn't cook an egg, but getting warm when used isn't alarming.

For reference, mine gets warm in the lower right area on the back when looking at the screen. The battery is high and to the left, so it's the chipset that's getting hot, not the battery (I felt the battery when the back cover was off and it never seems to get even warm).

Having said that, I intend to put the phone through its paces over the next few days to really tax it. If it fails, warranty is my friend. If not, then it's a good'n.
:)

If you've had lockups or reboots due to high heat levels, then your phone is defective. Exchange it for a new one...it's not supposed to do that, ever.

Mine gets warm, but not much hotter than my Desire and I've yet to experience lag, lockups, or reboots. If any of those occur, I will report it and exchange my device.

new record... i hot 50 C = 122F

I was streaming basketball from cbs march madness on demand for a few hours....it got so hot it stopped charging and wouldt charge till it was cooled down a little.

mine has seemed to settle around 27C-33C. The other night I tried to get it heat up as best I can to see what happens. I had the phone plugged into the wall charger gps latitude running win amp a 20 min youtube clip and I was getting and replying to texts I couldn't get it about 42C. Then again the temp at my place is in the mid 60F's.The day it hit 45C I was in my car it was pretty warm and the phone was on the dash in direct sunlight. I've heard of one person seeing 55C on their phone.
