Help Phone in a boot loop - No Space Left On Device

display

Lurker
Hi

Today when i was browsing from my HTC Desire, it crashed a lot, and then suddenly there was a message saying something like "cant save smses" and desire started reporting running out of space.

Somehow i restarted the phone, and now it's stuck in a loop. Boots up the HTC logo with silently brilliant, and then restarts.

My Desire is not rooted. and i have dont wanna lose my data :(.

Is there anyway i could clear the cache enough to atleast get the phone up and running.

I can get into HBoot recovery, but cant seem to wipe the cache , because of no space issue again.

I have adb installed and can see the device but it appear offline.

The issue is similar to the following thread but his phone doesn't show up on adb.

http://http://androidforums.com/desire-support-troubleshooting/187583-no-space-left-device.html

would be very grateful if anyone can suggest me a way to fix it without losing my data.

Thanks

No, in that thread I am not correct. You cannot mount /data and delete apps using adb without a custom recovery and root access, which unfortunately you can't get without a booting phone.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but your data is essentially lost. Sorry :(

oh okay, thanks

I dont know much about the details, but can cache be cleared using adb or any other way? I tried using fastboot erase cache, but doesnt seem to work.

So definitely i lost the data, yea? atleast if i can get the contacts n smses ...:(

No it can't. Fastboot erase cache erases the /cache partition where market downloads are temporarily stored.

You want to wipe application cache which is actually in the /data partition, aka internal storage. Competely different caches.

I can see no way out of this predicament. All I can offer is a recommendation moving forward. Use backup apps such as mybackup pro...
