Help phone is acting slow and laggy

Reeves

Newbie
My phone has started acting a bit slow and laggy out of nowhere and I cant figure out why. I'm not talking about internet speed, but the speed in menus and on the home screen when switching between screens. It just feels loaded up like it has a lot of programs running or something.

I don't have very many apps installed and I use the built in task manager frequently but I havent seen any hidden apps running or anything out of the ordinary. If I restart the phone it is like normal for awhile but eventually it goes back to feelin a bit laggy. even as I'm typing this message I can see a lot of lag with the letters appearing on the screen way after I type them, and that did not used to happen.

I hadn't installed any new apps in the time it started feeling laggy, but I did uninstall a lot of the litle I had but it didn't help.. one thing I had been doing when I noticed it getting laggy was I had been playing the game sketch online for long periods of time. There are chat logs in the game and it downloads a lot of portraits and stuff, but its laggy even while I'm not playing it. Not sure if that's related but that's what I was doing when it got laggy.

I'm running stock dl18 eclair. Any help on how to troubleshoot this and fix my problem would be appreciatd.

Like I mentioned a reboot makes it feel great but only for a little while. And I don't feel like rebooting my phone every hour. Something is going on and I'm trying to figure out what could be causing the actual problem instead of applying some workaround. Unfortunately this is my first smartphone, so I'm not terribly familiar with it and how it works.

My guess would be some sort of backround app taking up resources? Some sort of cache problem?

An invaluable app I use is called Watchdog. There is a free version in the market. It shows you any misbehaving apps and lets you set a maximum CPU threshold, "whitelisting" apps as you will. Mine has behaved well overall, but even running the stock ROM (though rooted) like you, every few days the phone will become far less responsive, like today, and a reboot is necessary. But if you're rebooting that often, something definitely sounds amiss. Maybe try it?

Sorry, guess I missed that part :(

Try checking in the settings and seeing what running processes there are. You can also install Spare Parts from the market and see if there is an app keeping the phone awake.

On the epic i just had replace i was having crazy issues with android.iqd . it was hogging all my memory and draining my battery in a matter of a couple hours. I talked to both sprint and samsung and returned my phone to sprint for this one i have now. Just need an app that can see system apps running, i use android system info, free on the market. And if someone knows what the heck that is please tell me, sprint didnt know and samsung would not tell me, just curious. Good luck to ya!

Question about the RAM.. I'm usually at about 250/325 RAM according to the summary in the built in task manager. Is that normal or what??

Checked my running services. One thing that struck me as out of the ordinary was that sketch online was running despite having closed it through the task manager. Other than that I just disabled swype and that's about it..

My EPIC has been acting up over the past week as well. I've had to pull the battery twice. I'm pretty keen on checking my running services, etc., but I feel like the phone has begun to act odd. Along with the running issues, my contacts randomly delete themselves (..and the pictures associated with those contacts are all jumbled). Any advice??

Same here, but I know why, at least in my case. It's Sprint's crappy service. It seems in their effort to get 4g up and running, they're messing up 3g. When I am able to connect to the internet, its very slow, to the point of being useless. They have to the end of this month to either fix it, or I'm bailing.

And my contacts have deleted themselves for the 4th or 5th time. I keep having to reload them from my SD card. This is pretty whack! If this continues (..and Sprint doesn't find a fix), I may make the jump to an EVO.

I'm having the same issue! For the past couple of days, actually over two weeks my phone has been acting weird! Super glitchy, force closes programs! I took it to sprint only so I can leave it there for over 3 hours and be told that nothing is wrong with it! They claim that if you live in a spotty area or are in a spotty area your phone can act up! BS! I called customer service and they were no help! i asked about swapping phones and paying a fee if I had too ( it's been over 30days ) and they said no! I would have to pay FULL price for a new phone-- My point is, I'm stuck with a glitchy phone that obviously has issues and Sprint won't help! sigh....... I love my phone! But sucks that after paying so much it doesn't work properly!
