Root Phone is messed up after root attempt

Lurker
My phone couldn't charge anymore regularly without applying pressure, so I got a new refurbished phone. I figured they were the same thing (stupidly) and tried rooting it, but when I turned it on, it wouldn't let me almost do anything. It either turns black like it's loading and then reverts to the regular screen (with the starry background and the bottom icons). It then gives me some message like "____ has stopped working properly (usually a google service)" and then gives me "force close" as the only option. Any attempt to go further into the menu simply does not work or gets force boot'd. Is there any way I can factory set my phone so it just works? It worked the last time I did it but I guess an update in October screwed up possible roots for this phone (read a little too late). I'd appreciate any help. Thank you.
