I've only experienced this issue a couple times since upgrading to the 2.1v2 (which I'm still on)..never experienced the issue while on 1.5. It wouldn't be related to the "Quiet ring on pickup" setting would it?

Oh Boy...I was just over on the Verizon forums and someone is claiming a similar bug with a brand new Incredible!

I doubt that it is related to the Quiet Ring.... I just got a call from my cardiologist. First call came through just fine. Then it was "I need to check a couple of things. I'll call you back in 10-15minutes". Knowing how my phone acts, I set it on my work bench so I would at least see it blinking the trackball. Not so much as a damned thing until I checked and saw I had missed a call.
Tried calling back. First, I got the extreme dialer lag that I had never seen before, as the phone filtered through my previous calls. Then, once I did get it to dial and call, no sound at all
Restart, missed on call due to no ringer, then a few minutes later (after adding the number into my phone book) it rang and worked like normal.
I'm almost to the point of trying to figure out a why to make this seem to not be my fault so I can get my phone "fixed".

I've had this happen to me WHILE I WAS ON THE PHONE, twice now. Both times when I pull the phone away from my face to do something (grab something, open a car door) then put it right back.
Audio is gone. poof.

Well, 3 days on a virgin install with NO APPS installed at all and the last 24 hours on the exact settings (minus the vmail settings) OTD posted above and I got it twice. I cannot force it to happen, it seems completely random and I am flat out sick of it!
This coupled with completely schizophrenic battery behavior has me drained!

Was having the problem every couple days for a month and now I haven't had it happen since a week before the v3 upgrade? I probably shouldn't talk about it, might jinx myself!
Are all of you refering to all sounds on the device, or phone call audio, or both? I have never lost all sounds on my phone, just in-call audio. Cannot hear caller, and caller cannot hear me.
The only time it ever happens to me is when I have my bluetooth connected and I receive a call. Never happens when calling out. And only happens once in a while like maybe once a day, no idea why yet. When it does happen, after answering the call, all i do is activate the speakerphone and the sound comes back. At that point I can click on my bluetooth to turn it on.
If I have lost all sounds on the device, I have never noticed it. Like I said, it only happens on incoming calls. (That I have noticed)

Mine varies. Sometimes I lose all sound, but the phone still acts as if it is functioning normally.
More often than not, though, all I lose is the ringers. Someone will call, I won't know a thing about it until my phone notifies me of a new voicemail. I can call and get the voicemail normally, and can return their call normally

Been running into the issue moving from 2.1 v2 to v3. Dont recall having it in 2.1, but it is occurring with 2.3 at least once a day lately.
Attempting to change volume also results in the 'Media Volume' popup rather than 'Ringer volume'. Poked through System app, shows CPU fairly idle, nothing apparent. Only solution so far is to restart the phone.

I just want to pipe in on this as it is getting to the point where I just want to give up and go buy a new phone. My observations are much like others posted here.
1) I haven't found a way to duplicate the issue
2) I lose audio while in the middle of a call or when trying to place a call(as in the caller can't hear me/I can't hear the caller)
3) It usually also affects audio on my music player
4) the volume rocker switches to media volume (I was able to get it to return to ringer volume by unchecking Voice Privacy. Not sure if this is of any consequence)
5) I also "took one for the team" and reinstalled 2.1 v3 without changing any factory settings and within 3 hours I lost audio again while I was on the phone
I really hope this gets fixed as, like I said, I am ready to give up on this phone. Can we please keep this thread going so that perhaps we can figure out what the issue is?

For anyone who is still having this problem load up .v2. 2.1 leak! If you still see a problem then do a factory reset. After doing a factory reset 1-2 times the problem will be gone 100%. I was having this problem and then did 1-2 factory resets in settings and now i have not had this problem in a long time.

It happens once a day or so, and the only way to fix it, that I know of, is to restart the phone, which sucks.
When I go to the keypad to dial, I know the problem is going to start because pressing on a number locks the phone up for a couple of seconds and then my phone is useless.
Do we think this is a software problem still? And I have not seen Verizon recognize this issue in the long awaited OTA release document.
Any recommendations?

Silent call bug just happened to me again, and what I did beforehand was so simple, I don't know why I can't replicate it. Here's what I did, but when I try to do the exact same thing again it doesn't cause the bug:
1. Placed a call to a phone number not in my call history or contacts (direct dialed).
2. Entered numbers during the call (automated system).
3. Hung up at the end using the soft "end call" key instead of physical button.
4. Voila, no more sound.
The only other thing happening during that call was that it tried to do an Exchange sync (and it couldn't since I was on the phone, of course).

As Caddyman explains below, there's no fix. It's a hardware bug. Take your phone to Verizon and get it replaced under warranty. (If you're on a leak, make sure you upgrade to leak v3 and maybe also do a factory reset before you bring it in.)

Updated to V3 from V2 since OTA will never come for my situation. Working well EXCEPT for the dreaded silent call issue. Happened right after a caller not in my contacts called. Hung up, then tried calling an often-dialed number in my contacts and it went silent, like it's done in V2. Some others have posted that they believe its triggered by outside, non-contact-listed callers. Oh well--I'll just live with it and move on. I don't understand how a software or OS upgrade can cause a hardware problem? There must be some programming glitch...

If someone else with the silent call bug wants to try this and see whether they can make it happen, that would be very helpful for obtaining warranty replacements.

So it's an app (or group of like apps) causing this? I've never had the issue, but I'm startled that this has not been discovered before by those with the bug.
